Your blind spot is usually not clear to you. People around you can notice this. Or if you try to look at it from someone else’s point of view, you can realize it yourself after a while. Our perceptions shape our life. The way we perceive life and our inferences influence our thoughts and behaviours. We pass the behaviour of those around us through our perception filters. As a result, we get an opinion about people. On the other hand, we must admit that there are always differences between how we see ourselves and how others see us. But sometimes, the distance between our self-evaluation and others’ perceptions of us can be considerable. And since everyone perceives the world differently, everyone thinks their version of interpretation is more accurate.

Let’s start by looking at the definitional differences between “perception” and “reality”. Perception is a belief, theory, idea, feeling, opinion, observation, insight, awareness, or sensitivity. How we perceive something we see depends on the filters we create over time. These filters are experience, feelings, expectations, and moral views. For example, according to the people around us, our best self may not be our best self. It may or may not be true, and initial perceptions can often change with time, changing circumstances, or receiving additional information. Reality, on the other hand, is inevitable, authentic, accurate, and verifiable. Fact is undeniable and non-negotiable.

Knowing how others’ perceptions of us are formed is like looking in a mirror. Undoubtedly, the most important thing is to face the facts. On the other hand, the perception of others about us is a reality that we must accept. We may not agree with this perception, or different people may perceive us differently. However, we cannot ignore these perceptions. Because they will behave in a certain way according to how they perceive us, these perceptions will significantly affect our vital results.

The difference between the perceptions of those around you and your thoughts about yourselves is your blind spot. If we do not see our blind spot, some blockages may occur in our lives, and we cannot do anything about it. These blockages can continue to affect us negatively by creating barriers to our progress on our way. Being able to see your blind spot is about learning to access higher-quality information and also developing a more sophisticated filtering system that will allow us to have more accurate perceptions and a better understanding of ourselves and others.

As Socrates succinctly and clearly said, “Know thyself!” This is the right starting point, but seeing your blind spot is difficult. When we need to take action on things that scare us or when making vital decisions, we may fall into assumptions about ourselves that differ from reality. This is because we cannot see your blind spot. It is because of the misleading effect of fear on our perceptions. Because fear is like radiation, it affects and changes the person if you spend too much time around them.

If you want to see your blind spot, we must be able to see ourselves through the eyes of others. The simplest way to find out is to seek feedback from people you trust, who can speak their minds wholeheartedly and openly, to learn how we are genuinely perceived. With any input, it doesn’t matter whether you agree with the information or its accuracy in your opinion. Anything you disagree with is your blind spot! Find your blind spot! Understanding the perceptions of others will give you a good source of communication, a learning opportunity, and the ability to manage perceptions. Once you know this, you can continue to find ways to create the perception that will take you in the direction you want.
